Post-Concussion

Brain Vitality 9 Post-Concussion

Brain Vitality EEG Mapping Symptoms

Though PCS by definition occurs after a concussion, not everyone dealing with a mild traumatic head injury will experience PCS. This syndrome can often be worse in people who have had prior concussions or some other form of head trauma.

It can also be more severe in those who have dealt with headaches after injury or have issues such as mental fog, amnesia, and fatigue. Women and older patients have been observed to be more susceptible to the development of post-concussion symptoms.

Diagnosis of Post-Concussion Syndrome

It can be difficult to diagnose post-concussion syndrome, since there is no definitive test or list of symptoms. A diagnosis can only be made when it is based on a history of head injury and other reported symptoms. A physical exam such as a CT or MRI scan of the head will often be done to evaluate any symptoms. Other tests will often be carried out in order to rule out factors such as bleeding injuries to the brain, infection, or even poisoning.

Symptoms of Post-Concussion Syndrome

While symptoms vary from person to person, some of the most common include:

  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Cognitive issues involving concentration, memory, and thinking
  • Sleep problems
  • Psychological symptoms such as irritability, depressed mood, and anxiety
